How to Find God / What do I need to do to have this saving and personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
1. ADMIT! Admit that you’ve blown it. We’ve all blown it. The Bible identifies this problem as sin. Sin is not just the bad things we do, but an inherent part of who we are. King David wrote, “I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5).
Because we are born sinners, sinning comes to us naturally. “But if we admit our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong”(1 John 1:9).
God understood our problem and knew we could not beat it alone. So he lovingly sent his own Son, Jesus Christ to bridge the chasm of sin that separates us from God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”(John 14:6).
Jesus laid aside his divine privileges and walked the earth as a man, experiencing all the troubles and emotions that we do. Then he was arrested on false charges and killed on a Roman cross. But this was no accident. He did it to suffer the punishment deserved by us all. And three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, conquering sin and death forever!
2. BELIEVE! “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”(Romans 10:9).
3. ACCEPT! “God saved you by His special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this: it is a gift from God” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
4. INVITE! Jesus said, “Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends” (Revelation 3:20).
To know Jesus Christ personally and have our sins forgiven, we not only admit our sins, but we take steps toward turning away from our sins—going in a new direction.
Welcome Jesus Christ into your life right now! He will move in and help you to change from the inside out.
Take a moment and pray this simple prayer: “God, I’m sorry for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and ask you to forgive me. Thank you for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. Jesus, I ask you to come into my life to be my Savior, my Lord, my Friend. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
5. GO PUBLIC! Once you’ve invited Christ into your life, it’s important to make your faith public to others. This often reveals the sincerity of your commitment. Tell someone close to you: a friend, a spouse, possibly a pastor.
Jesus said, “If you acknowledge me before others, I will acknowledge you before my Father in heaven. But if you deny me before others, I will deny you before my Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).
